Description

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics:

Isotretinoin is a retinoid derived from vitamin A, known for its potent effects on the sebaceous glands and skin cell turnover. It works by reducing sebum production, inhibiting inflammation, and promoting the shedding of keratinocytes in the pilosebaceous unit. These actions help to unclog pores, prevent the formation of new acne lesions, and promote the healing of existing lesions.

Drug Classification:

Isotretinoin is classified as a retinoid and is commonly used in the treatment of severe nodular acne that has not responded to other treatments. It is also indicated for certain other dermatological conditions, including severe rosacea and certain types of keratosis.

Formulations:

Our Isotretinoin Range is available in capsule form, with each capsule containing either 10 mg or 20 mg of isotretinoin. The capsules are formulated for optimal absorption and efficacy in treating acne and other dermatological conditions.

Indications:

Isotretinoin capsules are indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:

Severe Nodular Acne: Especially when resistant to conventional acne treatments.

Severe Rosacea: In cases where other therapies have failed to provide adequate relief.

Keratosis: Including certain types of keratosis such as keratosis pilaris and actinic keratosis.

Usage:

Isotretinoin capsules should be taken orally with a full glass of water, preferably with food to enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal side effects. It is important to follow the prescribed regimen and to avoid taking vitamin A supplements while using isotretinoin, as this can increase the risk of toxicity.

Dosage:

The dosage of isotretinoin may vary depending on the severity of the condition being treated and individual patient factors. Generally, treatment begins with a lower dosage which may be gradually increased based on response and tolerance. The typical dosage ranges from 0.5 mg/kg to 1 mg/kg per day, divided into two doses.

Side Effects:

While isotretinoin is highly effective in treating severe acne, it can also cause a range of side effects, including:

  • Dryness and peeling of the skin and lips
  • Dry eyes and decreased night vision
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Changes in mood and behavior, including depression and suicidal ideation

It is important to discuss any concerns or side effects with your healthcare provider, as they may require adjustments to your treatment regimen.
