Description
Pharmacokinetics:
Hypromellose, also known as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, is a synthetic polymer that acts as a lubricant and moisturizer for the eyes. When administered as eye drops (E. Drop), hypromellose forms a protective film over the ocular surface, providing relief from dryness and discomfort. It has a rapid onset of action, with the effects lasting for several hours after instillation.
Pharmacodynamics:
Hypromellose belongs to the class of artificial tears and ocular lubricants. It works by increasing the moisture content of the ocular surface and improving tear film stability. This helps to alleviate symptoms of dry eye syndrome, such as irritation, burning, and foreign body sensation, by providing long-lasting lubrication and hydration to the eyes.
Drug Classification:
Hypromellose is classified as an artificial tear and ocular lubricant. It is commonly used to relieve symptoms of dry eye syndrome and other ocular surface disorders.
Formulations:
Our Hypromellose Range is available in the following formulation:
- Eye Drops: Each ml contains 5 mg of hypromellose in a sterile ophthalmic solution.
Indications:
Hypromellose Eye Drops are indicated for the temporary relief of dryness and irritation of the eyes caused by environmental factors, prolonged screen time, contact lens wear, or certain medical conditions such as dry eye syndrome.
Usage:
Shake the bottle well before each use. Instill one to two drops of Hypromellose Eye Drops into the affected eye(s) as needed, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and place the prescribed number of drops into the eye(s) without touching the dropper tip to any surface. Blink gently to spread the medication evenly over the ocular surface.
Dosage:
The recommended dosage of Hypromellose Eye Drops is one to two drops into the affected eye(s) as needed for relief of dryness and discomfort. The frequency of administration may vary depending on the severity of symptoms and individual response to treatment. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized dosage instructions.
Side Effects:
Hypromellose Eye Drops are generally well-tolerated and rarely cause side effects. However, some individuals may experience transient ocular irritation, burning, or stinging upon instillation. These side effects are usually mild and resolve spontaneously. If you experience persistent or severe discomfort, discontinue use of the medication and consult your healthcare provider.
